A work in progress

Do you remember when I told you that my kids requested to all be in the same room? That's three boys and three beds in one room. I decided not think about it and just dive right in. Let's start here.

Welcome to our play room. I love the fact that I can just close the doors when I don't want to see their mess. This is the room they sword fight, tumble, jump off the couch, slide down their fort, pretend to cook, shop, and mow.

One of the biggest incentives to this room make over is getting rid of the couch. It's the last piece of furniture my hubby brought into our marriage. It's so ugly, but he claims it to be the most comfortable thing ever.

And ended up with this (temporarily).

I didn't move their beds into their room the first night because we wanted to make sure the boys really wanted to share a room. I just moved the mattresses and the next morning, it was confirmed, the excitement was still there so unbuilding and rebuilding we went. Even though, I did not like their beds, I decided I would go ahead and move them into the room temporarily until I figure out what it is that I really want. I do not like the sleighbed footboard in this room. I like the airiness of the middle bed with no foot board.

I haven't decided whether or not to keep the head boards, but the food boards will definitely go. I don't want a foot board that is higher than the mattress. It makes the space seem smaller.

The bedding will also definitely go.

The T.V. will go definitely...one day when I am able to lift the thing down stairs. It took 5 tough men lifting it to bring it into the room so for now it stays hidden in the corner.

That's my room update. My entire house is in shambles as I try to relocate what was originally in their playroom. There is still a long way to go. I need new bedding, more storage and new light fixtures (perhaps something less traditional and more modern). I look forward to finding funky night stands and a maybe build them a head board. I would like them to create art for the walls. The scariest thing is cleaning out the closet. It is stuffed packed with board games and toys galore. Fitting everyone's clothes into the closet isn't a big deal, but finding a place for everything that is currently in it is. That is a post for another day.

My muscles are sore from all the moving so I'm excited about the next step...shopping!

New Room for the boys

When we moved into our new house about 4 years ago, E. and R. had separate rooms, but R. would prefer to sleep in E.'s room. This went on until about last year when I finally decided to move R. completely into E.'s room per his request. Growing up, I definitely valued my space and probably preferred having my own room so it is fascinating to see my boys want share the same space.

Fast forward to today and A. wants to join the mix. They have all said they wanted to be in the same room at night so for the past two weeks, A. has been joining his brothers, camping out in their room.

My hubby suggested just moving all their beds into the current play room and after hearing all the excitement and applause from them, I couldn't help but think it was a wonderful idea. I've got so many ideas for the space.

I like the storage under the beds, but I'm not sure I want to make more beds at this point.

I love this, but we only have 2 matching beds with no hope of buying a third (bombay, the store I bought it from has closed). It's a huge room so I can do a lot with it, but where to start is the question. I am beyond excited!

Swimming ..in February

It's February. It usually snows this month.

This year, its been mild to say the least and since my boys have been begging to go for a swim since before Christmas, my hubby decided to heat the pool for the boys this weekend.

It's a February Swim..can I say oxymoron? I still think its crazy to be making cannon balls in the middle of winter, but what do I know? Ah, what it would be like to be a kid again. For now, I'm happy to be watching them from the porch :)

Toys R Us President Sale

I've gotten a lot of deals in the past, but this past week, I really scored. My kids started asking for Skylanders the game and although, I have been slowly shopping for the figures, I wanted to wait until Valentine's before actually giving it to them. Since the figures are hard to come by, I wanted to find them first.

To my surprise, the day before Valentine's Day, I was able to buy Skylanders game, the starter set on the Wii, for $19.99 at Toys R Us with their online buy 1 get one 50% off deal. That's a whopping $50 off! Since Skylanders had a huge $30 off sale, the price was marked for only $39.99 which is a great deal by itself. Shipping was free because I chose to pick it up in the store.

I meant to post this deal last week, but it was a crazy hectic week for me. So, although, this particular deal is gone, Toys R Us has other great deals for President's day, including Buy 1 get one 40% off certain games, and even Buy 1 get one 50% off of Legos. Happy shopping!

Hanging Pictures

My canvas prints have been sitting on the floor for weeks now. I've been walking by them wanting to hang them up for quite some time.



Remember this wall? I decided that I would replace the flowers with my canvas prints.



The way I like to hang portraits is to lay a piece of paper on top of the frame.



I punch a hole through the paper where the nail needs to be.

Then I use some painter's tape and tape the paper to the wall. At this time, I am leveling the top and measuring the spacing in between. The painter's tape makes it super easy to move the paper around without damaging the paint on the wall.

When I finally am ready, I hammer a nail into the hole that was made earlier (through the paper). Rip off the paper and replace with your portraits.

Because I have a bunch of holes on the wall from the flowers, I decided to replace some of the flowers until I am ready to fill in the holes which aren't too obvious unless you look for them.

I doubt I'll leave the flowers up on the wall, but for the meantime, it will do.

I am loving those prints though. Three pics for $30 is a steal in my book, especially when it makes me so happy to look at.
